I’ve decided that I would like to start a tumblr based virtual shrine to Hekate. I know others have to exist out there, but more never hurts, and I feel that this is a way I can start helping the community! You can find the shrine here
I will be using a template of sorts to help me with my research on Hekate, the Olympians and the rest of the Theoi by participating in the 30 Days of Deity Devotion challenge!
I’m going to start out with Hekate, and I’ll see if I like the topic prompting to transition into my other research. I am starting soon, but will get a few entries done before I start posting. I’ll probably start them either on the Deipnon or the Noumenia, not sure which yet (start posting, not writing).
edit: I’m not intending on keeping this as my blog theme, fyi, but I can’t change things until I’m on the desktop. Yay seasonally outdated Halloween goodness!
Hey guys! Just wanted to pop down a quick filler post, to let you know where I’ve been.
Well, good news is that I had a most lovely Thanksgiving vacation! Whoo, yay me! I went to the wonderful city of Boston and got to spend a whole week with the amazing bf (I’ll refer to him as Int from now on) as well as getting to spend Thanksgiving itself with family in Connecticut. Everything was absolutely fantastic!
The bad news is that, when I got home, I derped pretty hard and got a most horrible form of malware on my desktop and had to wipe it, and now of course am having problems with the reinstall. So, for the time being, I’m stuck on my jank-ass laptop, and so honestly haven’t felt like writing.
In other less than pleasant news, my medical leave from school has been forcefully extended through the spring. No matter what improvements I may have made prior, there is a new policy requiring mandatory 3 month minimum out during medical leave. This isn’t ideal, obviously, as I’ll now have to get a job and will have to cram everything into the summer and one last year, but hopefully it will all work out. I know I do need the time to work on myself more so I can actually do well in classes and make the most out of my education, so I’m trying to be positive. I haven’t told the family yet, not sure how to break it to them (they won’t be pleased, as they were under the impression that my leave didn’t have a chance of being pushed to the spring as well).
In other news of the more pleasant variety, I just had my 24th birthday (dear gods I feel old now) and it was a pleasant one. I’m getting an eye exam as my large present from the family, and was lucky to get two birthday dinners (one lovely one from Int while I was in Boston at Legal Seafoods, one from the family who let me take my best friend (Chica) with me, which was at Maggiano’s *yumyum*). I also got a bit of money, with which I’m being irresponsible with and purchasing video games and a psp, because damn it I want to play Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep! I also got some lovely light blue 600 thread count Egyptian Cotton sheets, a cute pair of boots, some cute earrings and a matching pin from an antique shop and my Grandmother’s Bible. She passed away last year on Dec 17th, so for Mom to give me that was really special. I intend on using it as an ancestral focus for remembering her, as well as the Bible I’d use if I ever did any Bible magic (no tearing anything out of it, of course).
I finally got my plants moved inside, before the first major frosts (but sadly not before the basil died, and so alas, no pesto). I’ve got my rosemary, lemongrass, feverfew, Kentucky mint, thyme, yarrow, 3 giant aloe plants, a random decorative plant that I’ve kept alive from my Grandmother’s funeral (which is now the size of a small tree) and some wormwood shoots. I had a few peppermint sprouts too, but the damn things are so hard to grow. I’ve also got an herb kit I’ve never done anything with, but may use for the marjoram seeds in it. I’ll take pictures soon!
The kitties are as fluffy and silly as ever, with my Charchar being as much of both a doll and brat as usual. Taco, my serpentine lovely corn snake, is pretty and spunky right now, moving around the tank. I need to feed her soon, and she and I just had a lovely hang out session the other day while reading the Gray Fox Epistles, a project by one of my new favorite authors, Sylvia Linsteadt. If you haven’t read her works yet, do so immediately! Then promptly sign up for her Gray Fox Epistles project. I love her work, which weaves together classic fairy tales, magic and ecology into fascinating and heart-wrenching landscapes and stories.
Anyway, I’ll be back to writing soon, hopefully after the desktop is fixed. My laptop is from March 2008 and is as finicky as an old brittle tree who sways when you blow on her, so I prefer to not do serious work right now. I also have to do a job search and the holidays are coming up, but I’ll be back soon! My personal projects right now are musing on my current “web theory” and reading through some awesome books. I hope to have a few drawings to put up on etsy to make some money for getting the blog to a better level of operation as well as getting funds for starting my podcast. Have a fantastic Solstice, if I don’t get some entries up before then!
My Trad mates have put out a podcast, Betwixt and Between! Totally give it a listen, I love these two. They happen to be my two wonderful and amazing teachers as well! Give it a listen, and hopefully they’ll put out more and more podcasts that share their vast amount of knowledge!
Hey guys! Midterms are the reason for my silence right now, I’ll be back to posting regularly soon. Just wanted to toss out some quick updates!
First, check this out- http://www.polytheismwoborders.com/
It’s a blog and forum dedicated to polytheists of all paths and it is absolutely wonderful!
Our trad is having an open ritual! Whoo! If you are in the Nashville area (or hell, the middle TN area in general) come on by! We won’t bite, too hard at least! *winkwink*
Pagan Pride Day just went down, and I got two awesome lovlies as well as participating in my first large public ritual!
First, a pretty little faerie door from the most wonderful shop that had so many fantastic polymere clay creations and rekindled my interest in working with the medium!
The second is the most wonderfully delicious and creepy mug I’ve ever laid eyes on. I went to it 4 times before I decided to splurge. It also makes me want to finish my Lovecraft anthologies!
Also, I realized I had never posted any pictures from our Mabon ritual! I won’t go into details much (I may or may not later) but here are a few photos of the altar set up!
I’m working on a few different things, as always, but soon I hope to add polymere clay to that list. I was silly and didn’t realize that sculpy was polymere clay, and so I realized that I could just use colored clay for my roses (herp derp) instead of trying to paint the damned things and all their tiny cracks!
Also, from a combination of having years of partial or full snake sheds from my wonderful corn snake as well as needing some extra funds to hopefully increase my blogging presence by upgrading the blog to pro (I can’t stand that wordpress may start running adds on free blogs without the author’s consent), I’ll be selling segments of partial sheds. I won’t sell full sheds, I keep all of those, but I’m offering 6 inch segments for $5. Shipping is included as I’ll probably press it fairly thin and just send it in an envelope. Email me at email@example.com if you are interested. If you specifically want an area that includes the head or tail, ask and I’ll set that aside for you until the areas run out. I use snakeskin as offerings (both in fire, albeit a bit stinky, as well as just a plain offering itself) to Hekate, but snakes are also associated with most underworld/chthonic deities. Zeus, Demeter and Ares are all associated with snakes (sometimes winged serpents), as well as several other of the Theoi. You can also use snakeskin as a point of contact/offering for getting in touch with Snake as a spirit guide. Snake is a fantastic partner for journeying, as well as being a keeper of great knowledge and a mystic (I’m actually just starting to delve into work with Snake myself).
Any money from selling the skins will go straight to the pot to fund the blog. I need $99 for this upgrade, and it will do several things:
-domain name and mapping
-no ads (yay!)
-allow me to upload my own videos
-add another 10G of storage to the site for photos and videos
-allow me to make custom css changes
I would really like to delve further into blogging and offer as much as I can to the community. To remain blog free and to allow me to share my own direct videos, as well as work on making the blog more aesthetically appealing, I’d really love to get the upgrade, but I can’t justify it out of pocket, being a poor student and all. If you’d care to support me, purchase some lovely snake skin! I’m also going to be enabling a donate button on the side, and anyone who donates over $3 can email me for a basic tarot reading!
Also, I wanted to let you guys know about a future project I hope to get started soon. I want to run a podcast for the Theoi, where I read aloud myths concerning Them, then present research and evidence of their historical worship, and then discuss modern interpretations and worship of Them. I’d like to do this on a “God by God” basis, so to speak, where I’d examine each on their own show (or two to three, depending on the length). Any money I get from the skins and any donations after the $99 for the WordPress upgrade will go straight to funding this project! I’d like to start it as soon as Yule and the holiday season (possibly right after Yule). I am also interested, at some point, to have a separate podcast on my more witchy practices, but that will take a backseat to this first project.
Soon I hope to start selling some of my artsy stuff on etsy, I’ll link my store whenever I have stuff for you to buy on it. I’m sorry for the blatant self promotion, but I’ve gotta do what I’ve gotta do, and I’m going to use any proceeds to help give back to the community the best ways I can!
Anyway, I have to shower before I run off to class. I’ll post more soon!
